With the CHBA-BC Georgie Awards and the CHBA National Awards of Excellence behind us, we’re now on the “home stretch” of the local awards season for our residential builders, with the CHBA Fraser Valley and the HAVAN Awards left to go. With so many opportunities to make your project an award-winning project, we often encourage people to enter multiple awards programs as the work that you do on one project can often—but not always—be transferred to the next awards program. And with different judges on each, you get a fresh chance on each awards program.

One of the questions we always get is: “what’s it going to take to reuse my entries from awards program x in awards program y?” To answer that question accurately for our clients, we put together a big chart with all the categories and all the requirements for images, marketing statements, and category criteria so we can easily cross-reference things—and it’s so useful for us that we wanted to share it with the rest of the community so you can better plan your awards strategies. So here you go, for your viewing/printing pleasure (warning, it’s big: tempting as it may be, I haven’t printed it on fabric and made it into a bedsheet yet. Maybe after the HAVAN Awards deadline…)

Metro Vancouver Awards Cross-Reference

A few general caveats:

  • The Nationals have a rather different format for the written marketing statements than any of the local awards, so while the content of your entry will be similar, the format won’t be—and your writing will need to be reworked to reflect this.

  • We’ve ignored specific requirements around budget numbers and plan requirements, because awards programs have been known to change these midstream or have other fiddly little things that only apply to one or two categories.

  • We’ve tried to do our best to coordinate similar categories, but some development types (we’ve seen this most recently with n-plex+laneway infill projects) are ‘corner cases’ that might fit into a different category than it might appear based on entry configuration, floor layout, etc.

  • …which brings us to our final warning: please check the official award requirements for the Final Word.
